Day 1: Stellenbosch


Upon arrival, you will personally meet the Tour Director, a resident of South Africa (Taléta).  From the airport, you will be taken to Stellenbosch to check in at your hotel at 2 pm. In the afternoon you will join the welcome meeting at the hotel lobby with your fellow travellers,  Michelle and your Tour Director (Taléta). You will have your course orientation around the dinner table. Greet the traditional, special and delicious South African cuisine tonight at a group dinner at Blaauwklippen.

Day 2: Stellenbosch


Full Painting day at Blaauwklippen Wine Farm. Michelle will demonstrate painting the model in nature and then students will paint the same model with one on one instruction from Michelle 

Founded in 1682, Blaauwklippen is the second oldest wine farm in South Africa.  Immerse yourself in a rich 350-year heritage that is thoughtfully preserved.

Day 3:Stellenbosch

Wake up to the beautiful Blaauwklippen and enjoy the breath-taking view of the early morning Stellenbosch mountain. You will first get the opportunity to paint the vineyards. Spring is on our doorstep and the fynbos and flowers are in full bloom. After having lunch at the Tokara deli we will head to a private garden overlooking the Winelands to paint one of the most beautiful views of our area at sunset with a model.

Day 4: Stellenbosch


Painting Day with special morning sketching excursion.

• Key Highlights: Sketching on location and afternoon Painting session with Michelle.

Day 5: Botlierskop

With the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains as a backdrop and sweeping views out over the glistening Indian Ocean below, lies Botlierskop Private Game Reserve. Just an hour's drive from Oudshoorn, on South Africa’s scenic Garden Route. Come and share the bounty and breath-taking beauty this 4,200-hectare reserve has to offer. Botlierskop Game Reserve will ensure you enjoy a unique South African Safari Experience, with luxury accommodation. This gracious family-owned and privately operated game reserve is malaria-free and home to four of the Big 5 (lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino) as well as a host of antelope, including rare black impala, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, hippo and more. All extra activities on this day will be for your own expense. Please let us know should we book a spa treatment for you in advance.

• Key Highlights: Painting landscape. (Sunset experience) close contact with elephants and possible sketching of Elephants


Day 6: Botlierskop

Today we will leave Botlierskop to visit a Game reserve close by. We will visit Buffelsdrift While feeding our elephants you will experience them (Jabari, Malaika and Bulelo) up close and personal.  You will find they may be huge but are gentle as can be.  You may feed them and take photos while our skilled elephant guides share their knowledge of these gentle giants with you.

• Key Highlights: Visiting Buffelsdrift to feed the elephants and paint the landscape

Day 7: Botlierskop


Today you have the option to choose a Game Drive ( 3 h) or a Horseback Safari (1 or 2 h) at 6 am. Exploring the diverse, fynbos-covered landscapes of the Botlierskop reserve on 4x4 Guided Game drive or horseback is a unique, South African experience. 
You will have the opportunity to practice Plein Air painting with Michelle from 9 to 10 am and paint on your own in the afternoon or go on another excursion or relax.

Michelle will offer critiques if you wish of work you have done on your own on the last day of the workshop

 • Key Highlights: Game Drive (includes snacks and drinks) or Horseback Safari ( only experienced riders) Painting the landscape, Marimba drum players.



Day 8: GR Game Lodge

Today after having your last optional game drive at 6 am and after having breakfast we will journey back to Garden Route Game Reserve. 

Enjoy sunset and sunrise game drives in an open Landrover with your experienced game ranger who will bring you sightings of lion, elephant, white rhino, buffalo and cheetah.

Garden Route Game Lodge is also home to giraffe, zebra and numerous antelope species such as bontebok, red hartebeest, kudu, eland, impala, springbuck and many more.

Game drives will take between 2 and 3 hours depending on how much time is spent at each sighting. There will be a coffee stop on the morning drive and a sundowner stop on the evening drive.

It is advisable to bring warm clothes along for the drive even in the hot summer months. Your game ranger will provide ponchos and warm blankets and has a bird book and binoculars. Remember to bring your camera and video camera with y

• Key Highlights:  Safari game drive and sketching with Michelle on the game drives.

Day 9: Stellenbosch

We will be driving back to Stellenbosch through a scenic route. Stopping along the way for a special lunch and opportunity to make a quick En Plein Air painting on one of the most beautiful routes along the coast.

Day 10: Stellenbosch

Today will be our last full day to paint a model on the estate alongside Michelle. You will also have enough time for the completion and a private critique with Michelle of your work achieved during the course and also of images of studio work you might want advice on. Michelle will paint alongside the class in the morning. The class will continue painting on the grounds in the afternoon while Michelle spends time with each student alone answering any final questions and giving critiques and advice individualised for each artist

Day 11: Stellenbosch

Our wonderful adventure comes to an end after breakfast. Make sure to bid farewell to newfound friends and exchange numbers before checking-out of the hotel (at 11:00). Complimentary airport transfers are available, have a safe and smooth journey!
